A GENERAL INTRODUCTION

Our work is charged at an hourly rate.

Mollie McQuade and / or Laura Bleach will be the fee earner with the day to day running of the file. Their hourly rates are:

Mollie McQuade (Assistant Solicitor) £177.00 + VAT

Laura Bleach (Assistant) £126.00 + VAT

Steven Beasley may from time to time have some involvement in the case, his hourly rate is £255.00 + VAT. He is the solicitor who oversees the file.

Each case is different and therefore it is impossible to give an estimate of costs without knowing the merits of the claim and the work involved. Larger value cases generally require more work but that is not always the case.

Any monetary claim valued under £10,000 is within the small claims limit. This means that it is extremely unlikely that if you are successful, you will be awarded your costs. In cases of this nature, we always try to proportion our costs effectively although it is not always possible and there are occasions in a very low value claim that our costs will be disproportionate to the sum claimed.

Fast Track Cases are cases valued between £10,000 and £25,000 and, if successful, you may seek some of your costs although it is not a given that you will be awarded the entire sum.

Multi Track Cases are cases valued over £25,000. If successful, you may seek payment of your costs from your opponent however it is not a given that you will be able to seek the entire amount of your costs and you will be responsible for the shortfall.

You must be aware that costs works both ways, if you are unsuccessful in your fast track or multi track claim, you will be responsible for your opponent’s costs and your own.

You may also be required to pay some disbursements and you will be responsible for the costs of these in the first instance, win or lose. Such items that you may be required to pay include court fees, barristers’ fees and expert fees.

For more information on court fees please visit His Majesty’s Court & Tribunal Service (HMCTS) website and look for a document called EX50 which will give you updated court fees.

In some cases, we offer a no win no fee agreement which is known as a Conditional Fee Agreement (CFA). This will be discussed at your first appointment.

Fixed fee appointments

We offer an initial fixed fee appointment which costs £30 + VAT for a thirty-minute consultation. Once we have met with you and discussed your potential case, we will provide you with an estimate of our costs and will ensure that no costs are incurred until our fees have been agreed.

If you would like to arrange a fixed fee appointment, please telephone 01785 712243.
